I am checking out Joy Creek Nursery this weekend. They have a web site listing there plants and I think it will be great.
Rosy lady
Lucky you, I have always wanted to visit that one too. Tell us how it goes. Rosylady, are you looking for anything particular?
I went to Joy Creek yesterday and bought 2 Ophiopogon landscapes “nigrescens, geranium “John Elsley, Campanula garanica major , Campanula latifolia “Brantwood and Ipheion uniflorum. I had wanted several hardy geraniums but it is to early.
Ann Marsh was giving a lecture. She is a landscape designer in the Portland area. Together with her partner Gary Fear she owns Marsh & Fear Garden Solutions specializing in designs for residential gardens.
The nursery is great in the fact it as a large variety and gardens to stroll so you can see how a plant actually looks growing in the garden. I would like to visit once a month through the fall to see the plants at different stages. The staff are great and very helpful. They also serve the most deciduous chocolate chip cookies.
I was a little disappointed the plants were so small for the price but I guess it is early still and we have had a cold spring. The major drawback is the plants do not have pictures. You really need to know what you want before you go. I checked out there web site and any plants that didn’t have pictured I copied and pasted into google images so I could see the plant.
Since I can cut over the hill and it is only 15 or so miles from here I will certainly go again.
deciduous chocolate chip cookies??? Do their chips fall out in Autumn? LOL I know where your focus is Rosy_Lady!
i just thought i would throw that cookie bit in there.
Sounds great, isn't one of their specialities clematis, RosyLady? I still hope to get there one day this spring. My daughters sometimes chauffeur me up through Portland which is probably how I would have to go. I do remember when coming through St. Helens/Scapoose we turned and went over the mountain as you say and avoided Portland and ended up in Hillsboro.
Thanks for all the suggestions!
i went to Joy Creek nursery. it was really nice. plants are small and a bit pricey. but it is early in the season.
I'd like to go back in May.
Just they have dozens of clematis. I was surprised to see 3 or 4 types blooming already.
Take time to stop at the nursery across the street MEANS, much, much better priced and larger plants, not quite as different as Joy Creek but worth visiting.

Monnier's Country Gardens
In the past I belonged to a service club with these people. I had no idea their garden business had flouriest so well until I accidentally ran across their website. I think I will take a trip to my old stomping grounds before I buy my hanging Fuchsia baskets this year. I am also looking for a hardy Fuchsia. I had no idea there were so many different Fuchsias.
Another one on your way in Woodland, WA (you can see from I-5) is Tsugawa Nursery. It's very big and prices aren't bad.

Rosylady, there is a nursery here in the Mt. Angel area that has wonderful wonderful fuschias and all kinds of hanging baskets. They sell lots of 4 inch pots of all kinds of premium annuals like all the calibrochas, verbenas, etc etc. If interested they usually start selling about Mother's Day. A lot of their stuff ends up in Al's Garden centers. Just dmail me and maybe we could arrange a day to visit there. I see the Monniers' signs on the way to my daughter's. I guess I need to find them too. I used to know a lady who did all kinds of upright fuschias on Boone's Ferry Road. I will try to figure out if she is still there. Joann
