Amaryllis - Orange Soverign.. Blooming Again

Waxhaw (Charlotte), NC(Zone 7b)

This bulb has been very faithful. I almost lost it to bugs this summer, but now it is blooming again..

Do you notice the 3rd flower stem coming up ? (and the offset at the side of the pot ?)

Last year this bulb produced a nice sized offset (the size of a small hyacinth) which is growing in a seperate pot.

Enjoy ....

Here is a picture with less color saturation.. The digital camera has a tendency to over-saturate the color, especially with flash..

Have you ever notice the throat of the amaryllis flower ? It is white and almost look like the edge of a venus flytrap.. interesting.. !!

Actually it is a strange orangy reddish color. In some light it is clearly orange, but in other light, it is almost solid red. It does look good in full bloom, however.

kd-- love your pics as usual. And what a vibrant amaryllis!

Is that taken with your new camera?
