My husband bought me an orchid last week. It has a profusion of floweres already! It is easy to see how a person could get "hooked" on these flowers. I had one last year that held its blooms for weeks. Then I put it outside and it got too wet and got black spot. I felt guilty so I brought it back in, cut off the bad leafs, and watered it occasionally. It now grows vigorously. Because I live in zone 5 there are not many orchids that can stay out doors all year. I have seen Ladies Slipper for sale but it is so expensive I am hesitatant about buy int it l. I might kill it.
