My DD lives in Chi Town and with her VERY bright windows, she does wonders with phals. They don't go out in the summer either.

Good morning all,
I recently got a dendrobium nobile, it has now finished blooming and I would like to put it outside, will it be able to cope with full sun? I am zone 11.

Dens do cope pretty well with alot of sun. I'd gradually get it use to the sun though. Esp. if its been growing in way less light, don't just put it straight out in full sun. Maybe not full afternoon sun, just morning.

I'm assuming that you have high humidity. If so, Bree is absolutely correct. Where I live, our humidity is very low in late summer and fall, so I give my Dens. filtered sun.

I am new to orchid growing & would like to know a good place to purchase some orchids.
Since we are now entering Fall here in Texas & it is still warm, I saw that Vanda/Ascocenda orchids like the warmer temps & thought I might start with these.
Any recommendations for sellers of these would be appreciated.
I did a search on Dave's Garden for sellers of Vanda/Ascocenda orchids, but didn't find anything. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place.

How do I translate the info on the tag with the plant to look it up in Plant files?
The tag reads: Wils. Castle Issa 'Hilo Bay'

In your case you have a Wisonara which is abbreviated Wils.. for a list of current abbreviations look here https://www.firstrays.com/PDF/Orchid%20Genera%20%20Abbreviations%20Sorted%20by%20Name.pdf

The rest is a bit more complicated but with some practice you eventually get the hang of it. That said, most of us mess up. lol This is a good explanation http://www.orchidkarma.com/about-orchids/orchid-nomenclature/ I suggest starting at genus and working your way down. The family and subfamily are of interest from a botanical standpoint, but not a part of the tag. Neither is alliance. However, knowing the alliance can help down the line when you want a look at the broader picture of a group of orchids to compare and contrast their habits. Hope this helps.
