We may relocate to Ft. Myers. Any advice for newbies in Zone 10 would be appreciated. Will I have major Zone shock?? What does the climate really do there? When does it (or does it) cool down/dry up in the fall/winter? Can you grow spices (thyme/.rosemary) there? How tropical can you go?
Ft. Myers vs JAX - Gardening differences?
I am in Naples about 40 minutes south. Our coldest months are late December and January. This month the rain slows till summer, december less, january a little more etc...
Our summers are very hot above 90 is the average. You can go to http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/
for further info. I think you can grow lots of herbs with no problem.
Hope this helps a little...
Michelle
Good luck if you do move...
Good news Barksy, is that you will be able to grow the true "tropical" things that got damaged by frost further north. Get a mango tree!
