micro-propagation workshop

Port Orchard, WA(Zone 8a)

I went to micro-prop workshop Oct. 29 for the hobbyist. I'm definetely going to pursue this with hosta as my main subject. now that I can do it for less than $100 verses thousands for a laboratory. I was wondering when it would come down to the home, hobby level, good luck to anyone interested in this. hostajim1

growin. I just made a clean box for transfering tissue to media boxes, $10 in material. now I'm looking for a supply of baby food jars. (day Care Centers ) 6oz jars a great for this. I'm looking for wire racks for layering worklights and media jars. Carol of Kitchen Culture Kits has all this info if you check it out.

Hi Hostajim1, I also found a number of local sources for materials yesterday so I'm getting there. I also found a few links that may be of some help.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hometissueculture/ (Yahoo Tissue Culture Group)
http://www.omnisterra.com/botany/cp/slides/tc/tc.htm (Carnivorous Plants)
I found this last link to be the most help with simple pics and instructions. The use of a side-turned aquarium seems so easy & practical for a hood. On the Hosta site, under http://www.hostatissueculture.com/gettingbiggerfaster.htm
is an interesting article about BAP-10 which significantly increases offsets on inground plants.

Jim I too use micropropagation for hostas, if you can shoot me over na email and we can compare notes. I have a whole room dedicated to a lab at my home. I have had some great results from "over soaking" hosta seeds in bleacl solution until the seed outer coating is soaked off (I use a magnetic stirring system), I then put my seeds in 1/5 MS after a triple rise. I get approx a 99% germination compared to not stripping the outer coat at an approx 18% germination rate, this is based on a dual batch of 300 seeds each.
