Please recommend a rooting gel

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

I used to use Wilson's Roots with Fungicide and had fantanstic results but can't get it anymore and it's a Canadian product and I'm in the US.

So I bought Rootech and I think I've had much less than half the things I try to root.

I have powder also but I prefer gel and I prefer gel with fungicide.

Can some one please recommend a good one and tell me your experience with it?

I am curious about this since I'd also rather use the gel because it doesn't get airborne with breeze or a wayward breath (not good to have when there are kids around). I am going to ask in my MG class tomorrow and see if anyone has any ideas or experience with a certain brand. We are actually doing propagation tomorrow so it will be good timing. I'd rather use the fungicide one as well living in this humidity. I'll get back to you with some good news for both of us.

Great! I'm curious to find out.

I found this one: http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=DCG300

I wonder if organic is all that strong?

Wilson's Roots with Fungicide is the standard in Canada...wonderful results....I swear by it.

captmicha, why not make your own? I've been ordering the IBA,NAA and then making my own solution. this way I know it's fresh and viable plus I can make 1 liter for about 25 cents. the stuff you buy you get is questionable plus expensive. hostajim1

I found the Wilson's Roots on Ebay, I buy it from a guy in B.C.

The Wilson's Roots is the one I was talking about. I used to buy one ebay but he doesn't seem to sell it anymore and won't answer my emails.

Make my own? More info please.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

No propagation in class yesterday, we did pruning instead and are doing propagation on Tuesday. I'll still ask but I'd like more info on making my own as well. I go through so much of the stuff it would be worth it and some plants need higher concentrations than others.

garityann, I use www.supergrow-biz.com for my supplies of Indolebutricacid, NAA, gibberyllic acid, etc. they have a on site calculator of PPM mesurements and they furnish a 1/32 spoon when ordering. lol hostjim1

garityann, could you share what you learn about what you learn in class about rooting hormones, I'm curious what the teacher would have to say about it.

(Zone 7b)

I'd be interested to hear that, too.
I've always used Wilson's Roots, and had excellent results.

Wilson's is the [deleted]. Lol.

I found these sites that apparently will ship to the US:
http://www.quickgrow.com/Fertilizers_and_Nutrients/hydroponic_8.html
http://www.betterthannature.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/36

Not including s&h, the latter link is cheap and doesn't have the $20 min that the former does.

I asked in class about rooting gel with fungicide and I was told to take a look at Gardentech's Rootone. I don't think it's a gel but it says it has fungicide in it. The website claims it's the ONLY one with fungicide in it so obviously they don't count Canadian products in that claim. That isn't much help but that's what Virginia Tech's hort. people use as well as what our Extention office recommended in class. I still want to try the Wilson's gel, I just might place an order tonight.

i have heard that if you add a little foot powder (dr. schools) to your rooting hormone it works wonders

Anna
will it prevent bunions on your cuttings?

This place sells reasonable quantities at a reasonable price.

Succinic acid (B-nine) elsewhere costs $95 per pound. Aspirin and Aspercreme, may work but I have not tried them for rooting. Aspirin is used for cut flowers and X-mas trees. Benomyl or Captan for fungi.
Hostajim1 is right about freshness. The commercial stuff may have been sitting for a long time.
(Paulgrow, Allen Park High or Cabrini? Do you Know OJ's limo driver?)

My kids went to Cabrini

Rootone is a powder. Powders never seem to do as well as the gels.

Footpowder... interesting! I wanna try that on my seedlings too b/c lord knows that I get dampening off.

Jim, I was curious about DIY rooting gel, but when I tried your link I couldn't find the site.... ??

Thanks.

I bought some from[ wilson's rooting gel ]
http://www.betterthannature.com/
go to catalog
Be warned - the shipping and custems to US is more than the gel . It was about $20 for 1 bottle . Find someone close , order at least 2 bottles and split shipping cost .

My Dad lives in Canada, does thsi stuff have to be declared in order for him to send me some?

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

I don't know and can't find the reciept from custems .
What I found was
$7.59 CAD
UPS shipping / handling $19.79 CAD
This was to Calif . Hope this helps .

I bought some of the Wilson's at Wal-mart when I was in Canada. It is less than $5 a bottle, and no, it's not an issue to bring it over the border.
