my next door neighbor in the Keys just sent me a picture of my old front yard during Rita. thought you might find it interesting. debi
Rita in Key Largo (my old garden)
For the week before Rita, I was worried I would have to turn on the sprinklers in my yard. It has been raining well the last 2 days and got lucky. I sure hope your old yard was planted with those that like "moist" conditions.... Maybe they can start a water garden now? Ana
Trackinsand, it appears as if you have a great pond there now.
that happened to me several times when i lived there. it usually takes about 20hrs. to go back down. everything planted there can take the salt. strangely enough, after a flood of saltwater, alot of the plants actually did better. even my old begonias survived and they were under completely. that picture above is roughly 3' of ocean water. there really are no moist conditions in the Keys. they are pretty much all on coral rock. rain drainage is instantaneous. i guarantee you, my neighbor will be watering her garden next week like nothing happened. debi
