Drying Red Castor beans, how long????

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

Anyone know how long castor bean seeds should be dried, how many days?

Thanks,

I just cut the stem off with the seed pods, stick them in a bucket, put them in the garage or basement, and when the pods are thoroughly dry they will begin to crack open. Then I start extracting the seeds. Be sure and wear gloves, as these pods are really prickly, and the beans have risin in them (poison) then just put the seeds on a paper plate, and dry for about a week. Then you can put them in bags and store in a dry place.

Thanks so much for the info.

Hey Cindy! You can also let them dry on the plant. Especially since nothing eats them!

Here's mine from last year before a storm blew it down.. :( Had a TON of seeds though.
