Bug ID

Brisbane, Australia(Zone 10a)

Hi all - If you have a moment, would you mind checking out my post on the Identification Forum. I have some weird Fluff ball bug walking around on my camellia. As it may be a "Florida thing" you all may be the experts I need.

How big is it? Does it look like it has other trash mixed in with the fluff?
It might be a Golden or Mottled Tortoise beetle larvae. They have spines and they cover themselves with their own trash (poops and skins). These beetles are very common in FL. They rarely do any damage to plants.

Interesting Vee8ch - thanks for the reply. I believe my guy is the larva of a brown or green lacewing. The lacewing larva have two prominent pinchers in front. http://www.uky.edu/Agriculture/CritterFiles/casefile/insects/lacewings/lacewings.htm They cover themselves with the remains of their prey. My guy has the pinchers. The tortoise beetle larvae is a more round, fat thing with spines all over and no pinchers. http://insects.tamu.edu/fieldguide/bimg195.html
