Cloning Machines - Do they work?

Clovis, NM(Zone 7a)

I have tried rooting some cuttings in my garage but I have not had too much luck. I have had more success growing plants from seeds but I really want to get some cuttings to work. I was searching through e-bay and came across these 'cloning machines'. I e-mailed a couple of buyers and asked for their opinions but some said "no way" and others said "I couldn't live without them". I will mainly be rooting trees and shrubs if that makes a difference. Here is the item i'm looking at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7702913094&category=43555&ssPageName=STORE:PROMOBOX:GENERIC
. The seller told me he would give a refund if the item didnt work but I would still like some opinions before I make too much of an investment.

Please let me know how they work.

Thanks,
Jared

I found a local source for the Rapid Rooter and tried cuttings today from several hibiscus, passiflora, and gallardia. I was inspired by JLD_II in http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/523806/

Build your own , and yes they work.

2 days and had roots on peppermint and mint.
12 days on english lavendar cuttings showing roots.
you really dont have to add anything to the water, just keep the
temp up around 75F. I add hydroguard to the water and once i see some
roots i will add a very weak mix of hydroponic nutreients.

also i dont use a humidity dome on the cutting but you could.

I think the cloning machines use an electric current to stimulate rooting. Tom DeBaggio mentions them in his book & says they work well, but they are definitley pricier than Sparky's design!
