smaller perennials for front border?

Proctorville, OH(Zone 5b)

Brunnera is seems like it has a lot of nicer newer varieties, the past couple of years... I've been looking at those.
Lamb's ear... seems to be unruly all the time for me... But it always looks great in the pictures.
I am really getting excited about the geraniums, tho. LOL

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

euphorbia 'fens ruby' is a lovely foliage plant for front of border..as is acorus 'minimus aureus' and carex 'gold fountains' and black mondo grass.

It looks like it's time to print this thread off. There is no way I can remember the excellent suggestions. Thanks!

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

In my zone 4 garden, here's some plants I've tried and could recommend for the front of the border, some of which have already been mentioned:

For Sun:
Golden Oregano (a long sweep of it shows it off best)
Sedum cauticola 'Lidakense'
Allium senescens & Allium senescens 'glaucum'
Campanula 'Blue Clips'
Dianthus 'Pixie'
Heuchera 'Snow Angel' or 'Bressingham Hybrid'
Dwarf Balloon Flower (12-18"H)
Coreopsis 'Moonbeam'
Festuca (Blue Fescue) 'Elijah Blue'
Sedum 'Vera Jameson'
Geranium sanguineum 'Striatum' (6"H)

For Shade:
Small hostas
Japanese Painted Fern
Heuchera 'Silver Scrolls' (flowers all season)
Heuchera 'Amethyst Myst', 'Plum Pudding' or 'Can Can' (great colours)
Astilbe crispa 'Perkeo'
Filipendula palmata 'Nana' (Dwarf Meadowsweet)
Carex 'Ice Dance'
Epimedium x rubrum
Saxifrage x urbium 'London Pride'
Asarum europaeum (Wild Ginger)
Tiarellas (clump-forming such as 'Ninja' or 'Rosalie' not the
stoloniferous kinds, unless there's lots of ground to cover fast)
