Bulbils on lily stem

Here is a nice picture of several bulbils on a lily stem (asiatic lily, I think)

You can even see some of the leaves coming out of the bulbils

Pretty much for those that develop bulbils.

so when are bubils ready to be picked and planted ? I have few coming up too!

Whenever you think they are large enough. I usually pick mine off and plant around the stem of the mother plant. Except for lancifolium. There are so many of those that I plant them in a patch.

I have always just let Mother Nature plant mine, and have always wondered if it works.

Do those come true to the mother plant? If they do, I think I'll pick mine and transplant them into a different part of the yard.

Yes they are usually 100% identical to the mother plant. The only time this would not be the case would be if the bulblet was a "sport" (a natural hybrid) .. however, in more cases than not, the bulbils are excact copies of the mother.

Thank you!
