I'm growing 3 types of melon this year for the first time - Ambrosia cantaloupe, Charentais, and Noir des Carmes.
I am growing them on a vertical system which we made for the raised bed in which they're growing and they are doing well on it. I have about 4 baby ambrosias that are about the size of small to medium potatoes. I would like to construct "slings" for these melons so that as they grow, they will be supported on the trellis (which has cross bars). I don't want them to get too heavy and snap the stems they are hanging on.
So, does anyone have suggestions about what to use for the sling fabric? I was thinking about using old nylons.
Thanks!
Slings for Melons
The nylons would have been my best guess as well. I think they would work great! A box of cheapoo knee highs or even footie types might work without alot of effort too.
