We think we have moles in our garden, but we're not sure. We have hardly any earthworms any more, and our rose bushes seem to have sunk. We just put the treatment out from Gardens Alive, which will send them elsewhere. But we're wondering whether moles eat earthworms and rose roots, or is something else happening? Our garden is in the Oakland hills.
moles
Marisyl, Welcome to DG! You can tell if you have moles because they leave little trails of raised dirt - usually along the edges of beds or lawns that are only about two to three inches wide. I find that mine tend to follow the sprinkler system. And yes they eat earthworms but also other pests. They get to be a problem when they make the garden unattractive. But if you have dirt hills, then you have gophers and they will definitely eat plants.
