Over a year ago someone asked if they really are as beautiful as they looked, here's a black form that's in flower.
Iris chrysographes
Nice to see a photo! I bought one this year only to have it die! Was in a large pot---but very very few roots....will have to try again.
Thanks for sharing this--its encouraging!
Baa - are these in a class by themselves, or are they Juno iris? Do you know?
Thanks :) I've had these for some time and they don't seem to be vigorous rooted.
Doss, they used to be classed as a Sino-Sib if that Classification still exists in AIS, might just be Siberians now.
Thanks. They're lovely. No sibs for me. :-( Too hot here. But it's nice to share yours.
doss are you sure it's too hot? mine seem to do OK.
Maybe not, but I was told by a well respected iris vendor that LA's would do better. Maybe I should try one and see. Thanks.

baa--
Your first iris is especially interesting...I'm wondering if it's very tall? And is the foliage chartreuse? --Could be a very interesting and unusual garden plant...thank you so much for posting the pics. t.
It's up to about 2ft tall but the foliage is more of a light green, we've had a lot of sun recently so many of the plants have slightly off coloured leaves this year.
Hi Baa, thanks for showing us your pics. I was wondering about the light colouring of the leaves on mine. I've had it for three years now, and this is the first year it bloomed. Dainty little thing. The one and only blossom so far, was damaged a bit, maybe from the horrible winds we had last week.

Brenda, how did your plant do this year??
:) Donna
Hi Donna. You've been digging up old threads. This year had some increase and a few more blooms. I still love it.
Did you get any pictures? Is it worth it to start seeds for it?
:) Donna
I looked for a picture from this year and all I found was another close up, a little better than last year. I was thinking of trying some seeds for them, but I forget where I saw some. Don't think they would be difficult.
Seed is quite easy to grow, at least it has been for me. I winter sowed. My seed came from the NARGS seed exchange.
Baa--if you get some seeds from that second baby I have a lot of rare bulb seeds and plants I can trade you. Plants made it from me to Wallaby with no problems in the mail. =)
edited to add I have a whole lot LA's if you like those too.

DMJ Thanks for the trade offer I'll have to look to see if I saved any seed, I've so many packets of seed these days I don't always collect seed and I've not had chance to update my seed lists (it takes days). I've had variable success trading seeds with North America over the last few years but now the US has provided the paper work for small amounts of seed it should be less of a gamble!
I'll let you know if I find any :)
I'm so happy to have found this thread. I just bought some seed and am anxious to germinate them correctly. Is it too late to start them as winter sown? Judging by the deep drifts outside, I'm guessing it would be fine. Can I succesfully start them inside? Am I right to think that they need a period of cold stratification? I thought that I read somewhere about a fool-proof method in which the seeds are shaken together in a plastic bag with peat or vermiculite or something, and then they stay in the bag through the various stages of cooling and warming until they sprout. Did I really read this, and was it referring to iris germination?
These will be my first iris seeds, and I need all the help that I can get.
