What happened to my lillies while I was out of town ??

Lilburn, GA(Zone 7b)

Oriental/asiatic bulbs...growing great before I left...came home to brown stalks/leaves. Not all plants are goners. Some of these bulbs has been in the ground for a couple of yrs, others just newly planted this spring. We had alot of rain while I was away. No damage outwardly to stems or leaves so I don't suspect critters. I live in the atlanta area
anybody have any ideas?

My first thought was Botrytis. It can make leaves and next stem die back especially in hot humid weather. Good air circulation is usually helpful and so is mulcing the soil to avoid splashes. Evenso, in hot humid weather, boytris can spread rapidly.

kdj..your info is appreciated...looked it up garden terms...appears to be some type of fungus. I am uncertain if this might be it...mulch is already down and air circulation appears to be ok. I do have hard clay soil that has been amended but maybe it could be that drainage is not great in some areas or as you suggest, the big fungus got em.
am planning on spraying them today.
