I root them in water, I've never had any problem.

where do you cut them to root them?

Portland, OR(Zone 7b)

They root at leaf nodes - just like pothos. Shorter cuttings that result in a bushier plant when you pot a few together gives you a healthier looking plant. Longer cuttings can make a really interesting looking plant, but it can look straggly.

Here's a tip that helped me:

Cut a long enough piece of the stem so that you can take off 3 leaves on the bottom, and still have 3 (or more) on the top. Put the stem in the new pot deep enough that all of the "naked" spots where you pulled the leaves off are buried under the soil. Then, put it where it gets enough sun and keep it watered. It will seem to be on its way out, but don't give up hope! It will take a little while, and I was about to throw it away until I noticed it started springing back. And sure enough, it worked!

Edited to say: Make your cut right below the spot where the leaf joins the stem.
