Jody,

Soak seeds in hot sink water for 24 hours. Put soil mix in a plastic zipper baggie; then into the fridge for 4 weeks remove. Then place baggie in warm sunlight closed until you see seedlings.

I'm going to try to soak them for 24 hours in some hot water/peroxide solution. Then do the paper towel in the plastic baggie on the window method. To see if I can speed things up.

Sometimes germination can take 90 to 120 days!

Well, I just took a pot of dirt and spinkle the top with seeds and pressed them in.
I put the pot outside in a part sun/shade area and would just water them when I watered everything else around it. I was really surprised when they came up.
They are about 2 inches tall now but did take probably 6 weeks to come up.

Hi Robin,
Not sure. Seeds came in a trade and were just marked Lavender.

I harvested seed from my hidcotte a couple years ago. They were still on the
plants after going through our winter. I cleaned 'em out and put them in a pot.
I'd have to check my records to see how long they took to germinate. I guess
since they spent the winter outside, they may need cold stratification.

Here's what the Ontario Rock Garden Society website says:
"Sow @ 20C. If seed does not germinate within 3 months, try 4C for 1-2 months"

Good luck!

Well shucks, I'm in Florida so I don't think mine knew about the cold stratification rule Must be a variety thing.

The variety 'Lady' is a relative newcomer (5 or so years) and is significantly easier to grow from seed without stratification or other special care. Jessamine

Has anyone propagated lavender with cuttings? Just wondering.

Grew flats of lavender this year. Used a soil-less mix such as jiffy mix. Got the medium moist. Sowed the lavender on top then sprinkled a bit of the dry mix with a flour "grater" - just enough to cover the seeds. Then misted that with a very fine mist. Sit them in the sun - mist 3 times a day and had seedlings in 4 weeks. Got about 80% germination.

I happened to come upon this in searching for something else - I know it's a year later, but I wanted to let you all know that I had success wintersowing Lavendar!
