FINALLY Iowa Tall Beardeds Bloom!

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

My Tall Bearded Iris are really early, but it still feels like I've waited forever to see my babies bloom.

Peaches & Cream is a lovely color.

Mme. Chereau is one of my favoite historics. It pleases me to think that it pre-dates the Civil War .(1844)

Florentina (Orris root) was commonly carried by the pioneers as a medicinal root. It dates back to the 1500s. The soft silver of the falls and it's ancient history fascinate me.

Words & Music is blooming in my garden for the first time after a 3 year wait. Elegant and soft color.

Here we go - You've got a lot of patience for words and music. But it's worth the wait. I loved the 'Orrisroot' insight. What a great deal of fun you have with your flowers, Wanda - but then you seem to live life to the fullest with everything.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Yeah, I'm full of it alright--ask my kids! :)

Walker the Wonderdog (wonder what damage he will do next) pulled 40 garden stakes 2 springs ago & I was able to wait & replace 30 of them that summer. . TODAY I found where the Batik stake goes!

Color Carnival (1949) is an oldie but goodie--one of my favorite types of historics. Just opened today with lots of blooms to come. Darn thing is as old as me with more color and minus the wrinkles!

Steppin Out is a crowd pleaser & sure to slow traffic when the clump is in full bloom. 1964 and still one of the best!

Wanda, how long have you had these irises in the ground? I don't get near the blooms you do, except for a yellow and white unnamed one.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Wanda, I agree with you about Steppin OUt being a showstopper. I have a lot of them along the street and they are one of my favorites. Putting on a show this year as always.

Steppin out is 10 years old, but has been shared MANY times!

Batik has been in the ground 3 years , but never blommed due to frost last year. looks like it's first appearnace is going to be worth the wait!

Color Carnival is hard to capture on film--though I keep trying. The magenta veining on the soft pink falls plus bright orange beard & LOTS of buds make this one a killer!

Popping out all over today after yesterday's sun and warm temps!
