Storage of seeds?

Dallas area, TX(Zone 7b)

Hi! I purchased some native plant seeds through the mail--flower and agave seeds. Can anyone tell me the basics of how to store them for another growing season? Do I just leave them in their packets in a dark place? Are the germination rates still high on seeds that were saved? Any tips or basic info that anyone could offer on storing seeds would be appreciated. Thanks!

Germination rates vary greatly by species, but a cool, and dry location is a must. Dark is not necessary.
I store mine in the fridge or the freezer in glass mason jar. For dry climates such as mine silica gel is not needed, but in more humid climates is doesn't hurt to include a small package in the jar/container.
