Help Please. I lost the label

(Zone 8b)

I bought some iris tubers from Ace hardware at 75 cents each last year. I didn't expect them to be great for the money but in a new yard you can't buy top quality everything or we'd be bankrupt. They were all named varieties but the d... rabbit removed the sticks I put in and then the wind the blew them away. This is the first to bloom, I think its gorgeous and would like to know who he/she is!! Can any of you experts help?

Edited to say the falls are about 4" long and the standards around 4" high.

Could it be Going My Way?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

It looks to me like "Rare Treat" - look at the Argyle Acres site and see if this is a match.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I looked at my picture of Rare Treat and it looks like the one you have there, okus. Can someone tell me how to put a photo in my message?

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

oops, never mind, found it!

Cant you see a whole bed just full of these clumps? Now I got to find more room . . . Mitch

Maybe you could go back to the same store this fall. Iris sold in stores tend to be the same ones every year - tried and true. See if there's a purple Plicata there.

And if it's an Ace Hardware, I'd ask them now. The people at mine are always ready to help me with strange problems.

I'm glad that the bunny ate the tag and not the Iris.

(Zone 8b)

Hi doss - that rabbit is a pain in the ... but he doesn't seem to like iris thank goodness! He eats a lot of other stuff though - one day he will be rabbit pie!
Thanks for the tip - I will ask the very helpful Ace manager next time I get down there.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

I think that it's a good idea. I saw 3 similar plicatas in Schreiner's catalog that aren't named here yet. You could be doing this for a good long time. Let us know what you find out.

Just wanted to show you all Houdini which opened today. I got it last year and had no idea. Just snapped this photo about an hour ago.

It is so unusual. What a treasure to find. It must feel like Christmas.

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Hi my friend! It was a surprise...this one is here at my house, not in the garden!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

wow - I have Iris everywhere cannot get to many

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Well, 75154 - Everywhere? I know what you mean. I have them in as many places as possible. Do you have a favorite?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

You know I get most of mine by finding them in old lots with no names . . I have called I think almost every land owner in the state looking for a few people who had them somewhere in their field. I just have to try to get one or two (never taking the whole bunch just some sides). 9 times out of 10 they say sure getum if ya want them. I think the old single white Iris has to be my fav. just because of where all it grows - it really wants to grow and bloom... all though I love the "Midnight" . . . too many to pick from.... Mitch

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

That's always the answer. Mitch - you're an historian. Good for you to keep the old ones alive.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Historian or like the people on my block call me "that plant nut"
Got to do my part right - and hey the price is right . . .

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

You don't look like a plant nut from this angle. I wonder what planet those folks are living on. :-)

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

It might help I have dress forms in the front yard covered with vines and old farm tools up against the trees. . . . but everybody does that right?

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh my gosh... I don't know what it is, but it's beatuiful!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

They where used way back when to make the shape of a dress, mine are all metal so it kinda looks like a row of ladies standing out there in bloom.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Fabulous. I saw a story on TV about some rare plant collectors and people would come to parties and step on their plants. They hung brightly colored bicycles in the trees and all of a sudden people began to look for other surprises. They didn't have any more problems. What are your vines that are blooming. My Clematis Niobe opened today!

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I have black eyed susan vine, 7 diff morning glory (not very big yet), Dutchmans pipe, Kiwi, and English Ivy. They are all wakeing up for Spring right now but soon my ladies will be here again.

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

You can say that again that they will be big vines. You must keep your snipping sissors handy at all times.

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Every day snip a little right? Thats nothing I have honeysucle and trumpetvine together on the back fence with the house behind us - that is a pruning job but really a nice look together.

Crossville, TN

75154...since I don't know your name, may I call you 75? That is easier....LOL

I would love to see pictures of your yard art...did you post pictures in the Garden Art Forum?? Jo

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Call me Mitch - no not yet . . ... . . .I guess I should when they are in bloom this year I need to get them all on there. I have a really strange yard I guess but I like it and thats what counts right? Mitch

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Be sure to let us know when you post them. Then you should be putting them on the vine forum. I'd be they would love to see them.

Sand Springs, OK(Zone 7a)

Crossville, TN

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Crossville, TN
