Could anyone supply me with some tips for propagating Scarlet Trumpet Honeysuckle 'Dropmore Scarlet' (Lonicera x brownii)?
1. When should I take cuttings? The plant is just starting to sprout leaves.
2. From what part should I take cuttings?
3. Should the cuttings go into water? Potting soil? In the soil outside?
I'll appreciate any help.
Tips on propagating Honeysuckle 'Dropmore Scarlet'?
Take honeysuckle cuttings in late spring after it has leaved out.
Take tip cuttings about 6" long with atleast 3-4 sets of leaves. Remove lower sets of leaves before striking cutting.
I like to root in a pot with a well draining planting mix (seed starting mixture). I cover the pot with clear plastic (held clear of the foliage) for 10-20 days until rooted. I place the pot in a warm room in moderate light (no direct hot sunlight).
kdjoergensen,
You state, "...before striking cutting." Could you explain that for a rookie? Does that mean to mash the end with a hammer to improve water intake?
