I have a stash of poppy seeds gleaned from a beautiful crop of this past year plus a bunch of fancy ones I bought in a co-op.
Now, when and how do I plant them since I missed the Christmas Day planting date?
HELP!
poppy seeds
Christmas planting date? Way too early!!
Sow them scattered on top of the snow outside, winter sow, or start under lights now. Some poppies need cold stratification to germinate and some do not. Most will do better with light during germination.
For me being as lazy as I am, these go on top of the snow from Dec to April. Great germination and don't have time to do major transplanting. Poppies will do better transplanted when small althought they can be transplanted when bigger too (they just resent it some it seems when bigger).
Any suggestions on how to delineate which varieties are sown where? The seeds are sooo small. If I'm going to trade them I will need to retain their original seed purity, or am I silly?
