Where i work we got leftover fresh cut roses from V-Day.
At some of the nodes where leaves were left they are sprouting new
shoots i call them. how would i clone (root) these left over flowers
to make some new plants ?
rooting Roses (cut flowers)
Sparky, here's a site to help you http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/471934/.
I scraped off some of the outer skin, dipped them in rootone, put that about 3" in the sand and covered them with a gal. jar.
I hope this helps.
Sidney
Thanks for the info. Any chance someone has info on doing them in a aero cloner ?
I just might toss some in there and see what happens anyways.
Ok , i broke down and bought a few of these cut flowers
here is a pic of my plants .. i havent cut them yet.
wanted to get some input first.
Sparky, thanks, a picture is worth a thousand words.
After you made the cuts how far down in the soil are they, the stems? How long is the cutting?I'm having trouble rooting roses thought I'd ask.Jody
Jodyc , what i did was cut it like i showed in the first photo
then i cut it again about 1/2 inch on each side of the shoot.
scraped the sides right where the node/shoot is with a razor
till i got through the green skin. covered ends and sides
with rooting powder. placed in the potting soil so the
shoot was stright up , the stem would be horizontal under
the soil. its not that deep under the soil .. may be 1/4 inch.
droped the pot in the gallon ziplock bag and sealed.
placed under one of my 4 foot shoplights (one cool and one warm lamp).
edit: shoplights are on 24 hours x 7 days

yeppers
I'm sure going to give it a go.:)
Thanks,Jody
i took the plants out of the ziplock bags yesterday and put them under
the shop light , light was maybe 3 inches over the plants.. i think it
was to hot for them, the leaves started to curl and dry up. The soil was
still moist though. Today i put them back into the ziplock bags and
will see if they recover ..
I'd leave them in that bag for about six weeks, but you're the teacher. MHO
Yep maybe an hr. a day fresh air; I lost a bunch taking them out of the humidity to fast.Jody
Noted.
Well I tryed some your way, we'll see if they take any better than the ones I'm starting the normal way; roots down.I had some cuttings come so I tried both ways.heehee Jody
Hiya,
Was curious how these turned out.
Annie
There were doing fine till i took them out of the ziplock bags
then they went down hill and croked.
Mine did too.I'm rooting outside from now on,I still think sticking them in the soil and covering with a mason jar is almost a sure thing.I have hundreds of cuttings from my good frind/almost sister Diana.I have them under those big plastic tubs with coir in a big hole I dug. Some cuttings from someone else i stuck in dec. right before the deep freeze.lol.They look like they are going to make it.I also have a misting system my almost sister sent me,I'm getting ready to hook it up.I still have 9 groups of cuttings sent by my bestest girlfriend.About 100 cuttings in all I'm planting them in pots right next to the roses Diana sent me so they can be under the misting system also. The humidity is much better outside most of the summer.Pray these all or even half of these take from me,if so i'll have cuttings to share next year.heehee
