I'm having a heck of a time getting P.delavayi and P. lutea to germinate.Any suggestions ? A nurseryman at the Flower and Garden Show today said "just stick them in the ground".That didn't work last year so I need to try something else this time.
Paeonia delavayi from seed
Peony have a double dormancy. Plant them in June-July, and they should send out a root over the summer, but no sprout. They should then send up a leaf the following spring. You must keep them evenly moist during the entire period....if they dry out after the first roots develops, they will die. peony from seed is not for the faint of heart!
If you start them now indoors, they may send out the root but they will not send up a leaf until they have gone through a winter outdoors.
Thanks Todd,I'll try some outside too.
