Contorted Filbert Propagation: via Nuts? -Cuttings? -Grafts?

Hello friends,

I have a Contorted Filbert bush/tree in my sunny Cincinnati, Ohio (45211) yard that I would like to propagate.

It is not on its own roots, so I have a minor "sucker" problem to deal with in its current state.

I would like to make propagations of it that will grow their own roots, if possible, to avoid future problems with "suckers", so grafting would not be my first choice, whereas cuttings or seeds would be preferable.

I believe that this specimen is about 7 years old. It appears to be very healthy and produces copious catkins and lush foliage, but has not yet produced any nuts.

I would also like to know how to propagate via planting nuts, should it ever produce some.

I would be very grateful for advise and instructions on how to obtain "own root" propagations for this interesting plant.
