I have peach, apple and pear trees on our property that are 2 years old. Is this the
time of year to prune them?
Thanks!
When to prune 2 year old fruit trees?
we purne in early spring while they are still dormant.
we dont really prune the peach n pears to much but the apple trees we prune everything that grows straight up.
hope that helps a tad
In my zone I prune any time from november till late winter. Historically around here Washingtons birthday is a target date to be finished by. As Notmartha suggest I prune the verticals flush with the exception of the main leader and trim it back a bit and the horizontals to a third of there last seasons growth.
You can save a lot of pruning if in the spring you just rub off the growth that forms on the top of the branches that will stop them from growing and they won't regrow from that spot as they will regrow if you let then get big and then cut.
Some apples form on new growth and some on last years wood so you need to know which you have.
As you shape the tree cut out anything that crosses anothe branch and growing towarda the center.
Good books are an asset here because you get pictures hope this helps Ernie
