a co-worker has planted pumpkins this year. i believe he planted them in june into the garden, after starting them indoors. anyway, he says he has great looking plants. large green leaves, lots of flowers but he hasan't found one pumpkin on any of the vines which he says are growing all over the place. don't know much about pumpkins but told him i would ask my friends at daves garden. i don't know if he is using fertilizer or what kind but he says the vines are growing up the fence he has around the them any ideas please?
pumpkin question
There could be a couple of reasons. Using too much fertilizer (nitrogen) can promote rampant vine growth and discourage fruit set. I've also heard that some areas have lost most of their honey bee populations due to parasites and disease, so they may not be getting pollinated. If you've had cool, wet weather, Pythium could be taking out the fruit before they set as well. Seen any bees? How's the weather been?
