this is a picture of what I dug up 2 weeks ago to make room for something else. I've dug it up before and just moved it around. Haven't had time for anything else. But, I think it's garlic and would like to take the time to produce some if I can. What I've got fits into a small paper grocery bag! Any help?
dug up garlic I think
Are you sure it is garlic. Kind of looks like maybe Shallots.
Cut into one and if it smells like garlic then that is what it is.
If it smells like onions, then it is shallots.
Garlic usually grows in a cluster around a center stalk with about 6 to 8 cloves.
Looks like shallots to me, too. Usually I don't bother to replant small ones like those, just use 'em in cooking. Planting larger ones will result in larger shallots as they reproduce.
I've never grown either. The previous owners planted both. The've just been moved around with my planting of other stuff. Guess I'll look into what I need to do to grow garlic, onions and shallots. I planted red onion starts last year but didn't end up with anything larger than 1 inch bulbs.
Thanks
