I have a pumpkin turning orange already. Is this "normal"? The seeds were planted in the first half of May, I think. The vine looks healthy. I know that ripe pumpkins will keep for months, so I'm not worried about not having my Thanksgiving decorations, but I've not seen ripe pumpkins in July before.
Pumpkin Turning Orange Already
Probably normal. My Cushaws are ripening here. Have to plant them early here to avoid pickle worms. Back in Viginia we palnted pumpkins the last of June for September/ October picking.
What are pickle worms?
I don't *think* that we have them here, Kelli.
Mark my words, I will prolly find one tomorrow if I don't go knock on wood real fast.
The pickle worm is a serious pest on Cucurbits in the Southeast. Don't know if they exist in California. Picture at
