Some years ago I seemed to be able to take Pelargonium cuttings with ease, but the last twice I have tried it, I have found that black leg has taken all but a couple of the cuttings.
Does anyone know of a prevention - or cure?
I dry them off and use moist vermiculite on top of good home made compost cut with more vermiculite, and bottom heat....
Black leg on Pelargonium cuttings...
I use just vermiculite or soiless mix. I did about 40 this year and only lost one. Maybe the disease is already present on your mature plants. I assume you're referring to a fungal disease. Wetting your starting medium and spraying the stems with a fungicide is supposed to help. Make sure your tools are clean. A little rooting hormone won't hurt either. They don't seem to like to be under plastic, but mine do fine in the propogator with the vents open. Some years you just get luckier than others.
Thanks,
Have managed to get about 50% success this year, but I will follow your suggestions when I take my next lot in Sept.
