Seed Starting Supplies

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

I am little ticked. I can't find one place that has the basic black tray, the cell packs (36/72) , domes ... and any other stuff to start with seeds. Can you recommend one?

Thanks

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Have you checked Wal-Mart? They usually have some stuff.

Or any of the agricultural farm supply stores. A couple around here carry lots of seed starting stuff. Even some of the hardware stores do.

Ditto poppysue's advice. If you can't find any at an agricultural farm supply store (Tractor Supply Farmer's Co-op, etc.) or a hardware store (I know the chains like Ace, TruValue, etc. sometimes carry them) or WalMart, here are some mail-order sources:

Home Harvest: http://gardenwatchdog.com/c/603/
Earl May: http://gardenwatchdog.com/c/1976/
Pinetree (although their website has had major outages lately): http://gardenwatchdog.com/c/2/
Peaceful Valley: http://gardenwatchdog.com/c/138/

Southwestern, OH(Zone 6b)

Lowes has stuff too. I didn't buy my cell packs there but did get several black trays, they were like .97 each.

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

What about the domes, and the (36/72) cell packs? Walmart doesn't have exactly what I am looking for. If I want to buy the dome/cell pack/tray together, I would ... but what if one of those parts was broken. I don't want to but the whole another one for just one part. What does Lowes have, I had one Lowes nearby just opened last year ... do offer a little bit more ?

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

Where can I find a Farm supply store? That would be great if I could find one.

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

Terry,

Thanks for the websites mentioned ... Pinetree and Homeharvest have some of my needs. Thanks

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Here's an excellent supplier, very reasonable also.
I just received some pots I ordered, very quick shipping.

Lowes does have the domes and the cell packs, but, to me it was a little expensive to buy them together.

My favorite place to get supplies Charley's Greenhouse.

Our Co-op sells everything separate - cell packs, flats and domes. The only downside is they only sell the 72 packs.

A looooong time ago, I got some nifty 48-cell packs. Have no idea where (Target, maybe?) and haven't seen 'em since. They're a nice size: about 2" across and "squatty". Great for stuff that you want to encourage lots of roots, but still get a decent number of plants in a flat...

odori983, do you have a Farmer's Co-op or Tractor Supply Co. "up there"? (I've never lived in the northeast, so I'm not sure what chain stores might be nearby...)

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

http://www.novoselenterprises.com/products/seedling.asp does not have the standard 10x20 supplies. Charlies Greenhouse is okay.

Dunno anything about Farmer's Co-op ... is there one online? Any source that been online or in business for several years would be great. Terry, you are right on target with the help. I live in the city ... Rochester to be exact. Monroe, Wayne, Ontario ... would be the county names. I tried to look them up in google ... nothing dead on.

odori, did you look at the site I posted above? It's a Switchboard list of all the farm supply companies in and around Rochester.

Farmer's Supply and Farmer's Coop are the same? Help me?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

farm supply is a generic term for a store that sells fertilizer, bulk seed, animal feed for horses, cows, pigs, chicken, etc. Also known as "feed 'n seed store". Farmer's Co-op is a cooperative arrangement among local farmers, but sells basically the same type of items. They often have a decent garden supply and/or nursery center associated with them.

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

So where can I find one?

You must have missed this page full of 10 x 20

The link Darius provided lists the following farm stores in an 8-20 mile radius of Rochester:

Cutter Farms (North Greece, NY)
Higbie Farm Supls Inc (North Chili, NY)
Cranmer's Feed & Farm (Honeoye, nY)
Victor Feed & Home Supply (Victor, NY)
Countryside Feed & Grain (Brockport, NY)
Avon Feed & Supply Llc (Avon, NY)
Countrymax Stores - Palmyra (Palmyra, NY)

Phone numbers and addresses are listed in the link she posted above. These places are *often* located on the outskirts of town, convenient to farmers coming and going. (I qualify the *often* with the understanding that frequently towns have grown up around them ;o)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

The Lowe's by me carries the three packs of standard trays, with 72 cells per tray and lids. I think the price is $8.47 here

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

Higbie Farm Supls Inc (North Chili, NY) did not have garden supplies
Cranmer's Feed & Farm (Honeoye, nY) too far

Will go to
Victor Feed & Home Supply, and CountryMaxx ... and see what they have.

Sorry if I sound stubborn

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

Sorry badseed ... but I must of overlooked the one webpage ... thanks

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

Countrymaxx and Bristol's were a winners ... but the other place I tried were no good. So anyways, I am gunna give up on the farm supply places, until I move into the country. Thanks for your suggestions. If you have any other mail order places that have websites, I will be willing to check them out.

Any lawn & garden centers near you? WalMart, K-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, Menard's, Pamida...all typically have a decent lawn/garden section and this time of year they carry cells, flats and domes.

Up until 2 weeks ago we could find them locally. .....NO longer =(

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Oh heavens....they had tons of them at my local Safeway grocery store just this afternoon.
I suppose it's one of those items you only see if you don't need them. :-)

Sodus, NY(Zone 6a)

I have 5 of those stores WalMart, K-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's. I also have Harris Seed, Garden Factory. The problem is that most of the stores have limited selection, and mostly sell the kits.

Ebay sounds like a good place to start .... any other places like Ebay that I could try?

Thanks

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Unless you're buying them by the caseload, I think we've exhausted just about every possible source.

As you may have found, most of the large seed companies (Johnny's Selected Seeds, Pinetree, Park Seed, Stokes, Vesey's, Thompson & Morgan) all have a selection of seed starting supplies. They're all going to have similar offerings and similar prices compared to one another and the nursery centers associated with the "big box" stores.

I'd definitely check the eBay listings in the link above - some of them may have an eBay store or other online store if you find what you like at a price you like ;o)
