I have quite a few seeds I want to plant & finally got started in the greenhouse.
I have quite a few of the peat pellets so gonna use them. I planted part of my seeds like that a couple of years ago. They did real good but some I waited to long to plant. I need to do better with that this year. Also I believe I need to start watering them with a weak fertilizer as soon as they gets true leaves. Anyone else using the pellets?
I want some nice plants to take to a swap as well as a few I started rooting.
Started my seedlings.
I have a number of seeds in peat pellets but got spoiled by the sponge method. 10 days and still waiting. All the others have leaves already.
I'm using pellets too - had the best luck with them. (Haven't tried the sponge method yet, though.) I start to fertilize weakly with a seaweed-based fertilizer usually around the 2d set of true leaves - depends on the plant though.
lotsadirt..U mean the sponges are up but not the pellets I presume. What kinda sponges? Where did U get them.
Keyring I don't know where to get that here. I've gotta get some kinda fertilizer as all I have is way to strong for them & not sure how much to weaken it down. I want to get a liquid I think. I have time still :) I hope to get another tray done tonite.
If I have as good luck as I did before I'll be happy.

Okay, the top three are links which talk about the sponges. The fourth is for starting seeds in rock wool. As for fertilizing my seedlings and cuttings, I use MG Expert 20-20-20 at 1/4 strength until they have a well established root system. Hope this is helpful to you :)
I know it depends on the type of seed, but over all the plants in sponges started first. Here's what I have growing so far. Today and tomorow I have to thin them and build my little indoor greenhouse. Some are beens, some are flowers, some I fotgot to label so now I have to wait. It's been fun trying.

My sponges are the real cheap kind from the dollar store.

Lotsadirt -- looking good :)
I see that some of you are using the peat pelet and have had luck with them. Last year I used those peat pelets and did not have much luck but I had many other problems that were encountered due to insects and mother nature. Do you take the netting off before planting in the ground?
I thought the idea was that the roots grew through them....no, I wasn't planning to. But I'm a newbie.

I always removed the netting on mine. I think they do better that way.
