tips on rooting coleus?

Sedalia, MO(Zone 6a)

i am trying to root some of my nicer coleus for next spring.
a couple of the varieties are withering in water and others stay firm but not rooting very quickly.
are there some tricks to rooting cuttings of coleus?
thanks.

Stick the stem in dirt instead of in water, and make sure the stem does not have leaves right close to the dirt on it. I used to do this with my coleus all the time to make them look fuller in their pots. Works great.

Do you have some of the leaf joints under water? Strip a few of the bottom leaves off and make sure that part is under water, the roots will come from the joints. Mine are in mason jars and plain water in a north facing window and with no help have lots of roots within 2 weeks.

Just keep the water fresh, or they will rot.

most all have rotted. i am guessing i did not keep the water changed out enough? guess i will be trading for more of them in the spring:(

Sorry to see the Coleus didn't make it. There will be tons this spring at DG.

Fill a plastic container with perlite, and then top off with water. Rooting hormone on the roots. And cover with plastic if the humidity is low. Try not to use water that has been through the soft water machine (salt).

Works for the majority of cuttings.
