Growing edible ginger

Lake Elsinore, CA(Zone 9a)

Anyone have any knowledge about growing ginger in our garden. We cook alot with it, but have never grown it.

Oh pleaseeeee.... someone has to know about this!!! (Sorry I'm whining)

I had a friend in FL who used to grow it. It seemed to do best in partial sun-partial shade, and like most tropicals, enjoyed lots of compost and good moisture. Here's links. The second link requires Adobe Acrobat to read.

Our member Mitjo has submitted several images: http://plantsdatabase.com/go/55488/ Perhaps you can email her for advice, even though your growing climates are radically different :)
