Anyone know if the variegated astrantia (Sunningdale variety, I think) comes true from seed or if it is green leaved. I have some small plants and all I see is green so far. Thanks for any help.
Astrantia~variegated~
Hi Lorie
Astrantia major variegata does get sold as a seed so a fair percentage carry the variegation but not all will. You may find the variegation comes a little later on or that the variegated seeds take a little longer to germinate. Are these seeds store bought or from the garden? If they are out of a garden they may have crossed with another astrantia then the chance of variegation will be less but still a possibility as they gene will be present.
Baa,
The seeds are from a garden. I am hoping that they didn't cross. The girl said that it was the first year she had the plant. Maybe that will make the difference.???!!!
Thanks for the information.
I forgot to mention that the seeds were very easy to germinate but I think it is because they were very fresh.
