Read somewhere that if I get a ginger root from the produce department that I could get a nice plant out of it. I got two today with nice green eyes on them. How deep do I plant them, and is a pot okay, or should I plant them in the ground??

Ginger root
I planted a ginger root once. I only planted it about 1 inch below the soil, and in about a week it had growth coming up.

My mom and I both have edible ginger growing in our gardens.
It depends where you live as to how deep to plant, I suppose. Here on TX Gulf Coast, we plant very shallow; just barely covered. Mine grow in part shade.
Will they survive if planted in a pot and brought indoors for the winter? And, how to get more gingerroot for cooking?
Mine died back after doubling its root volume in six months. I understand you can dig up and divide the root at any time. I don't like ginger but the plant grown in dim light looks like a bamboo.
I grow it inside in a pot.. How do I get it bloom? Hmm...

I bought one at K-Mart and the directions said to plant it 4" deep
