I've never grown lettuce before. Can I grow it in pots? If so how big do the pots need to be?
Lettuce
Lettuce grows great in pots. Follow the space recommendation on the packet for the kind you will be growing, like 6" apart or whatever.
Lettuce roots only need a fairly small amount of growing room, 4" pots would be fine for each plant, or you can put several into bigger ones -- 10" pots. Also, potting them makes it a lot easier to move them around when the hot summer comes: you should be able to keep harvesting all summer long!
I grow a lot of varieties of leaf lettuce and Boston (buttercrunch) lettuce. Never really tried head lettuce since we prefer the others. What kind are you considering?
Thank you Lupinelover. I'm going to give it a try. I don't know what I'm going to plant yet. It's 85 today and we might get snow/sleet tomorrow. I haven't put anything outside yet.
