an unknown Clematis

Denton, TX(Zone 7a)

This did not bloom, or even grow last year, so it was a surprise to see it. It smells of vanilla

Dunno about the scent but it might be C. montana var. rubens if the foliage is purle tinged

I think it may be Montana Mayleen...I will try to get a picture that does it justice, it is a two tone pink...very pretty, and like I said, a complete surprise!

melvatoo,

I agree that it is Montana Mayleen. Look at the sepals and the foliage. The foliage of Montana Rubens has more of a purple tinge, Montana Mayleen does not. Both are excellent, fragrant and vigorous twiners! Great to adorn a fence or pergola with!

BTW, if you like/love Clematis and want a couple more, hop over to the Co-op Forum and take a look at the ones that are being offered wholesale!
