I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to collect and germinate amaryllis seeds successfully. Several of my plants have enlarged seed pods which formed quickly after flowering. I'd like to know what is the best way to harvest these seeds, before the pod opens up and releases them.
Thanks,
Olga
Hippeastrum/Amaryllis seed pod
Wait for the pod to turn brown and let it crack at the top. Then remove the seeds and trade right away or plant while fresh.
Deanne,
Thanks for your response. Do you know how many seeds are usually contained in a pod? How big are the seeds?
Thanks,
Olga
Each section has maybe 20 seeds. They are like paper with a little bubble in the center. They should look black.
