My Amaryllis look like they are gonna pop. When should the seed be harvested?
How Fresh Is Fresh for Amaryllis Seed
When they split at the top or turn completely brown and dry. The seed needs to be planted fresh.
and fresh means as soon as they fall
so how do you start them? I got some in trade I'd love to start.
seeds that are sown fresh need to be potted as quickly as posible after being released from the pod. Hellebores and Trilliums are like this. The roots grow within days of being on the ground. These seeds also hate to be dessicated and viability goes down with age. you should pot yours today.
looks like I would just barely cover them?
how do you mean? I would cover them with vermiculite or horticultural grit in a 4 inch pot
thanks Mark!!!
Thanks folks, I got 16 little Amaryllis growing well now.
