Has anybody used the soil block makers? What were your experiences like?
Soil Blockers
I have. I didn't care for them too much. The soil has to be just the right consistency to get them to come out right. It's not as easy as it looks and takes quite a bit of practice to make them well. Seeds germinate easy enough but they require a lot of attention to keep the seedlings healthy. They'll dry out with a blink of an eye, and it's easy to destroy them with too much water.
I've used them for several years and have had good results. The seeds germinate very well and when they get large enough I transplant into large pots. The only draw back for me is my hand strength. You have to be able to really compact the soil in an then push them out and this takes quite a bit of strength. Luckily my DH is great at making blocks.
