help with reference books

Weymouth, Dorset, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

I'm hoping that all you wise bods out there will be able to point me in the right direction. I'm after some reference books on specific plants, I don't even know if any of these type of books exist. The first is on campanulas, and another is eryngiums.I grow quite a few plants from packs of mixed seeds ,and need a good visual refernce book to be able to identify them all. You know the sort of thing that I mean, it has pictures of the leaves, and type of flower heads.I think that probably it'll have to be older books, but does anybody know if there are there any on-line places that I can browse?

This one may be worth a try sue http://www.cgf.net/list.html

And this: http://www.bethchatto.co.uk/gallery.html

A number of other nurseries have good sites too. I'll be back later, so let me know if you need any more :)

The Hardy Plant Society have just published a booklet on campanulas - have not seen it but have seen some of their other titles and they are quite informative and very reasonably priced :

thanks you two, have book marked those two for reference, and pulled off an order list for the hardy plant society.Someone told me to check out a shop which sells older books too, but it has to be something on line as I have mobility probs.A few years ago we went as a family to this place on the Welsh border( name escapes me for the mo, but it's famous!!) where there was nothing but second-hand book shop after book shop. I was in heaven :-)unfortunately hubby was not so interested. so our stay was shorter than I'd have liked. What I'd give to be able to go back there now,and rummage through the gardening section!

Aaaah, Ross on Wye, heaven indeed!!
You've reminded me that I've promised myself a trip there sometime, to indulge in unlimited browsing

Here's the RHS book shop http://www.rhs.org.uk/publications/pubs_library.asp

and Waterstones may be worth a look too as they have descriptions of their books http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/655876/026-5664014-6195629

And then of course there's dear old Google. http://www.google.com/about.html
I thoroughly recommend downloading the Google toolbar if you haven't already. You can search the web easily with this always on your toolbar and it has the image search too, so you can check out what a particular sp looks like. Not perfect I know as it depends on someone having put up the info to begin with, but helps to broaden knowledge of a subject.

Hmmmmmm, I'm just beginning to understand why my days never seem to have enough hours in them LOL
Oops, hit the send button by mistake - was going to say happy hunting (or rummaging, I love that word!)
