My balloon flowers always set a lot of seed, but as yet I have been unable to get them to germinate. Anybody out there have a good, reliable technique?
Balloon flower seeds
I received some in a trade this year and had no problem at all. I planted them in starting medium, and put them under lights. When large enough I transplanted them into a bed early this fall. I am in IL also and so far they are doing fine.
Did you cold treat them? I am curious as to what I might be doing wrong. Thanks!
I just harvest them, sprinkle on top of the soil, water in and voila...seedlings in about 21 days. You can chill them or store in the fridge till you are ready to sow.
Did'nt do a darn thing but plant them.....Try again....
Well, thanks for the help! I will try them several ways. I have two varieties of blue, and one of pink, which means tons of seeds! Hopefully I'll get some this time around.
i'm in zone 5 too.. just sprinkled on top of soil and lightly patted done and they can up fine in the spring[planted fall] sue
