Caterpillar mystery

Olympia, WA

I posted this critter over in "identification" forum, but realize that it probably should have been over here instead..........does anyone know "who" this is?? It is about 1.5 inches long and emits an acrid smell when disturbed.

Wow...pretty thing. Looks like one of those that will end up with "eyes" on its wings.

What a difference a day makes!!!!!

I have learned (thanks to Dave's Garden) that this is the adult caterpillar of the two-tailed swallowtail butterfly - and that those protuberances are called "osmateria" - the characteristic feature of swallowtails that exudes that bad smell!!!!!
