Question about planting tomatoes and bell peppers

Sarasota, FL(Zone 9a)

How close can I plant them together? I have a VERY limited veggie garden space and I have heard they can't be planted near each other. Anyone have any quidelines I can use? I have 6 different varities of tomato's and 3 different bell peppers.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Only reason for that advice is that, being in the same family, they are subject to the same pests and diseases. But other than that, planting them near each other won't hurt anything.

Tomatoes (assuming inderterminent varieties) can be planted 18 inches apart, although 24 inches is the usual recommendation.

Peppers can go about a foot, although some varieties don't suffer if they are as close as 8 inches. Peppers seem to benefit if they can "touch hands".

Hope this helps.
