it's an Elephant Hawk Moth if I remember right.

I know other people have told me so. I must have misheard you the first time round. Someone showed me another photo they had taken of this moth. It was much more brightly coloured than this one and it was really beautiful. I expect bats eat moths dont they - shame really when they are as beautiful as this. But then I suppose you would say bats are beautiful too.

brightly coloured moths are usually not good eating. Hawkmoths are too big for British/Irish bats to eat.
