Anybody have or know where I can find Skullcap???

Noel, MO(Zone 6a)

I don't know any other name for it,
Have you all heard of an herb called Skullcap??
My Mom uses the herb for her health. And we would like to try and grow our own. But so far I haven't seen any that I can get.

Any ideas?

Thanks soo much ~RaeBuckner~

Hi, RaeBuckner.

Here's a page that has a lot of links for information and seed/plant sources for Scutellaria lateriflora (which I think it the proper latin name for this herb.) Hope this helps!

Thanks for the link,
But um other than very specific info on them. I really don't know anymore as to how to find some I could grow. Or to find out if I can grow it.

I live in Southwest Missouri Zone 6a.

Maybe if I do a search on the latin name you gave me, maybe that will help. Thanks ~RaeBuckner~

Within the link I gave you are several other links, one of which (I think) is to Botany.com. You might take a peek there, they usually have at least a little information on growing each plant they list.

Some of those other links might also have some growing information for you. Or try a search string like
Scutellaria lateriflora + germination.....or
Scutellaria lateriflora + growing

Hmm silly me I still didn't find info..
Even at Botany.com,
I must be blind or tired or something.

(Does anyone by chance have any seeds or cuttings to trade???)

Rae,

Horizon Seeds sells both seed and plants for Skullcap.

Check them out at www.chatlink.com/~herbseed.

Companion Plants has both the plant and seeds on their website. Sorry, I don't have seeds myself.
The website is companionplants.com
Do a search here at daves, some members may have the seeds for trade.

Oh! Well, duh, I thought you needed information on HOW to grow them, not WHERE to get them! The website I gave you has links to seed and plant sources, you just have to scroll down a ways and you'll see both in separate sections toward the bottom.

And definitely try a search on the DG members' seedlists, you might get lucky there.

Sometimes the ole brain just short-circuits on me, and what I read isn't what I comprehend. Sorry about that!

Thanks I will have to check into those things.
So I need to post in the seeds forum?

Hi RaeBuckner, What I have on "Scullcap, Baikal" is the following: Important Chinese medicinal herb, prescribed for fevers, colds, hypertension, insomnia, headaches, hepatitis, diptheria, shingles, and other ailments. Many of its traditional uses are supported by clinical studies. Very showy blue flowers. Height 15 inches. Must have good drainage, and does not transplant well. Otherwise easy to grow and very hardy. Perennial Zone 4 - 8. Seeds are $2.50 per package from Richters Herbs for ordering seeds or catalogue. www.richters.com

Thank You gardendragon for the info.

Glad to know it will grow in my zone (6a). At this time marclay an I are doing a trade, so I will have the seeds soon. Thanks ~RaeBuckner~
