Huge bugs attacked me

I've never seen anything like them before!! They literally were dive bombing at me!! They buzzed loudly, are about 1.1/4 inch long, fat, grey/brown with a pattern on their wings. When I flicked them off me they landed on the ground and almost pretended to be dead. When I would go back to check them on the ground, they were gone!! Any ideas??

or this one? these are bad to play dead when disturbed. They will make a bad blister on your skin if you touch them(I know from experience, I sat on one)

Cala more like the first link but with more intricate pattern. Thanks for trying Mavie but it is definitely not a bee!! :-) I've noticed more bugs this Spring than ever before and a few that are new to me!!
